Hello, we are Margie and Larry Schwartz, and we are raising funds on behalf of the Zach Schwartz Family Charitable Fund. This fund supports an annual scholarship for a graduating high school senior in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. We created the charitable fund in memory of our son, Zach Schwartz, who grew up in Annapolis and attended Annapolis High School and the University of Maryland. Sadly, Zach died in a vehicle accident in Wyoming on September 1, 2015. He was on his way home after his much-anticipated trip of a lifetime to the national parks, traveling with various friends throughout the country. He was 28 years old. As you might guess, we miss him terribly. This is our way of honoring his memory.
Zach graduated from Annapolis High School in 2005. While there, he played four sports -- lacrosse, soccer, wrestling and indoor track. Zach was an avid reader and was full of trivial knowledge. He loved to argue (about anything). He loved the outdoors and spending time with his friends. Zach was always proud to tell people that he was from Annapolis and wore his Annapolis sports jerseys long after he graduated.
In his memory, we have established the Zach Schwartz Scholar-Athlete Scholarship, administered through Scholarships for Scholars. So far, we have awarded three scholarships (2021, 2022, and 2023) for a total of $14,000. Scholarship recipients were from Broadneck High School, Annapolis High School, and Crofton High School. We will be awarding our fourth scholarship on May 1, 2024, bringing the total to $19,000. We award the annual scholarship to an Anne Arundel County graduating senior who excels academically and has participated in sports throughout his or her high school career.
Please help us continue this worthy cause and keep Zach's memory alive in the town he loved. We are so grateful for your support, and we know that the scholarship recipients are extremely appreciative.
