Wahyu's Brain Surgery
Donation protected
Anyone who has been traveling in a place like Asia knows the dangers all too well. Sadly, travelers get injured on a daily basis and the most common injuries come from motorbike accidents.
A friend of mine from Indonesia, Wahyu Bagus Setiadi, was traveling in Thailand a month ago and fell victim to a motorbike crash. He was riding as the passenger and despite wearing and safety helmet, he suffered severe head trauma requiring surgery to remove a part of his skull to allow his brain to swell.
The surgery was a success, however, the road to recovery is long and Wahyu is extremely confused, barely able to communicate and has no idea where he is or what happened. It's likely going to take a minimum of 6 months for him to recover basic functions and a year before his life can start returning to normal.
Unfortunately, he didn't have travel insurance (although insurance doesn't usually cover motorbike accidents anyway) and so the family now have large medical expenses to pay. It's difficult to earn enough money in Indonesia to cover the costs. To put this into perspective, a standard 2 bedroom apartment in Denpasar, Bali, can cost 400,000 rupiah per month ($50) and this is actually considered expensive to many locals. The medical expenses so far have reached an excess of $20,000 AUD (200 million rupiah) and are continuing to rise. The family has already paid off $5000 of his medical bills but don't have any money to pay the rest. This means they have no choice but to ask for help.
If you are able and willing to help, please could you make a contribution to his brother's account below? Any amount would help the family a huge deal.
After Wahyu's Accident - he has no functions on the left side of his body and is very unaware of where he is or what even happened to him.
Prior to this accident, Wayhu was extremely full of life. He loved to sing, dance, travel and made friends everywhere he went. He is extremely intelligent and worked for a legal firm in Australia. The better help the family can afford to pay for, the better his chances of making a full recovery. You can see him prior to this accident by checking out his Instagram @wbsetiadi
