More information about Wales Deaf Rugby Union: Men's 7s and 15s World Deaf Rugby Champions. A women's team was formed in 2020. Affiliated to the Welsh Rugby Union. We offer deaf and hard-of-hearing rugby players the opportunity to play international rugby for Wales. This April the Team travels to Corboda in Argentina to participate in the World Deaf 7s Championships. The men's team are the current holder of the title and this is the first time a women's competition has been held. There will be a squad of 12 male players with 4 players in reserve and 12 women's players. they are supported by a Team Manager per team, a Head Coach per team, a BSL interpreter, and coaching assistants. Each player and coach has paid £1625 of their own money to cover, flights, hotels, transfers, insurance and player registrations. The team is not directly funded by the WRU although we have access to Macron kit. We mostly pay for our own training venues, medical supplies and supplements. Although we have used the WRU barn twice in the build-up. Each player had the option of finding a personal sponsor and we have several team sponsors who are grateful to but the sponsorship does not come near to the £80,000 total the trip has cost. We would like to raise some of the costs the players have incurred and use the money to ensure a healthy future for Deaf Rugby in Wales. There will also be some events to celebrate this historic tour.
