WALK A MILE: Mile 1 - Tanzania

MILE 1 - TANZANIA
My journey begins in Mwanza, Tanzania walking with a beautiful and empowered stove mason named Elizabeth. Elizabeth and a team of women in Mwanza handcraft charcoal-efficient stoves and sell them at affordable prices to local families. The stoves not only provide income to impoverished women but also drastically reduce the life-threatening health risks from cooking over open fire.
QUICK FACTS:
- Cooking over open fire is one of the world's most unknown killers. Four million people die each year from breathing toxic smoke.
- Families with an open flame kitchen inhale the equivalent of two packs of cigarettes per day. TWO PACKS!
- Stoves are a simple, energy-efficient solution to this problem.
- Each stove saves a family 20% of their daily expenses because they use 50% less charcoal each day.
- It only costs $20 to fund a stove!
All donations directly benefit The Adventure Project, a nonprofit that creates jobs in developing countries.
