Walk of Hope in memory of George and Amani
Our hearts are broken following the loss of our kind, funny and bright son, known to family as ‘Gorgeous George’ following a horrific 11 month battle with a Glioblastoma brain tumour. George will be #forever13 and we will never get over this.
Only when this happens to you do you find out how desperately funds are needed for Brain tumour research. George had been a normal, happy and healthy boy until he developed headaches out of the blue last April 2021. We were broken to learn that he had a Glioblastoma brain tumour and told ‘don’t search for a cure, there isn’t one. Just go and enjoy the 12 months he has left’. Can you imagine receiving that news for your 12 year old? We literally searched the world for a cure, but nothing could save our little boy.
Shockingly we found that historically only 1% of government cancer research funding goes to research for brain tumours, which are THE biggest killing cancer of our children and young adults. It’s not a great story.
While George was battling we heard about Amani, who lived only 15 minutes away and was fighting the same horrific tumour. Our families connected, sharing ideas of treatments, research and offering support. We were devastated when Amani lost her fight in February 2022, aged just 23. Sadly George also lost his fight not long after, on 12th April this year.
Our two families, friends and supporters are proud and honoured to join together to remember George and Amani who have touched the hearts of many. We will be doing the Walk of hope to raise both awareness and much needed funds for Brain Tumour Research.
If you would like to join us to Walk In hope please go to - Walk of Hope to register. We are asking those walking to wear a touch of red for George and purple for Amani. All welcome, including children and dogs, we hope to make this a fun family occasion.
If you can’t join us and would be willing to spare a few pounds, any amount big or small will be appreciated and will go directly to Brain Tumour Research.
We pray that we can help do our bit and that one day a cure will be found, we can’t bear to think that every day other families face what we are right now.
Louise (George’s Mum), Matt (George’s Dad), Jamie (big brother), Issy (little sister) and all of George’s family and friends.
