Walking Wales with my Weird-Looking Dog

Donation protected
This expedition was originally meant to take place in the summer of 2020 - but due to Covid, it had to be postponed for two years. Now, we are looking forward to finally being able to undertake this adventure in May 2022.

Over the course of two months, we will be walking the most rugged parts of Wales - meeting a variety of cheerful locals, from the most welcoming to the most bizarre. We will produce a six part docu-series of the expedition, with Amy Aed as host, Inés González Miguéns on camera, and Trianna Carroll on sound. Plus, our travel companion, Cragen the goat, who we will be taking from a local abattoir before he gets sent to slaughter.

We will begin the journey in Aberystwyth on the 1st May 2022, where we will walk north to meet witches, druids, former Satanist priests, blacksmiths, rugby players, and millionaires - just to name a few. Our goals is to experience everything that makes Wales the raw, wondrous and unique country that it is. By interviewing locals, getting hands-on with lambing, beekeeping, and bog snorkelling, and experiencing the best and worst things that Wales has to offer, we plan on uncovering the contrast of tradition and modernity that this country thrives upon.

We will trek over mountains, clamber through caves, and wild swim in freezing waters, staying in any accommodation we can find. This includes lighthouses, underground bunkers, caving huts, a monk-run commune, stranger's houses, and good old fashioned wild camping. Hopefully, the locals don't mind the goat too much.

We want to explore the history of Wales through its people and its land, and find out how that history has translated to the country that it is today.  We hope that at the heart of this journey, it will be Wales that tells its own story.

WHY US?

- Inés is from Galicia, and Amy was born in South Wales. We are on a journey to discover our Celtic heritage.

- Amy is an established blogger with over 14,000 monthly unique visitors to the blog, already having established a keen following.

- Amy has Crohn's Disease, and wants to challenge the stereotypes that come with having a disability.

- Trianna is American, and as such, will bring some sort of hilarity to the project.

- We are an all-female team and want to break into an industry dominated by male explorers.

- Our honesty and passion will make for a candid and fun journey where anyone can tag along.

- Cragen needs a lot of walks, and this journey will easily provide it for him.

We have already received support from numerous explorers and celebrities, such as Ash Bhardwaj, Ed Stafford, Darius Arya, Benedict Allen, Reza Pakravan, and Hayley Long – all people we have spent our lives looking up to. It’s as exciting as it is scary – but knowing that we have so much support from not only the people mentioned above, but radio stations, magazines, and local businesses, makes us feel as though this is a journey that really means something to people. And if they have faith in us after knowing how hopeless a team we are, well, I guess we have to do it.

Chris Bonington:

“Sounds a fantastic wonderful project and I am very happy to put out my support. The very best of good fortune and have a wonderful time.”

Reza Pakravan:

“This is an epic adventure around one of the most incredible parts of the world. The girls are super brave and ambitious and I am giving them my full support.”

Ed Stafford:

“[These girls] are embarking on a fantastic adventure to capture Wales in all its gritty glory. I wish them well and give my full support to the project.”
