Last year I decided to attempt the complete traverse of the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. My work agreed that I could take time off to prepare and try to complete the GR10 which I funded completely alone.

Initially, I didn't want to announce this as a charity event as it was almost 1000km, through high mountains with a strong possibility of injury during the trip. I thought it wouldn't be good to take money for something I hadn't completed.

Throughout the journey which took 43 days of constant walking, nearly all alone, I spent many isolated hours in deep thoughts about my late father who was sadly taken by Dementia in 2020.

This was an horrific period for my family. We first watched as our dad drifted away from us, helpless to stop the onslaught. We then lost him for a second time 3 years later when he passed on 1st August 2020.

This disease will effect us all in our lives, either with a close relative or ourselves suffering from it. Once the diagnosis is given, there is no going back. Unlike cancer, where many people can now be treated, alzheimer's and dementia is terminal.

Many friends have asked if the walk would be used to generate funds for charity. If I can use it to make some small relief in a families suffering then it will have been worth all the effort.

I completed my traverse on Friday 21st July 2023. I covered and recorded 975km with 55,212m of positive and negative ascent. If you can, please donate. All funds will go to the charity. Thank you for your support.
