Brock Leitner's Road to Recovery

On June 12, 2022 Brock was having a great day riding at the Dorva Motocross Track in Drumheller, AB when he experienced a life altering accident. Brock crashed and was rushed to the Drumheller hospital where Stars Ambulance was there with a helicopter to transport him to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary due to the severe trauma to his back and spinal cord. He quickly underwent emergency back and spinal cord surgery. Brock’s T6/T7 vertebrae and his spinal cord were severely damaged, leaving him paralyzed from mid chest down. Brock and his parents (Rick and Lori) were then told that Brock has less than a 10% chance of ever walking again. Brock spent time in ICU and currently remains in the spinal ward until he is stable enough to be transported back to BC for further rehabilitation.

 

Brock’s love of racing dirt bikes began at the age of 4. It soon became obvious that he had an extreme passion for the sport and eventually became a professional MX racer from 2013-Present. In 2018 Brock took a different path and became a heavy equipment operator/track builder. In 2022, Brock returned to the track so that he could ride again and train younger individuals. His goal, to give back to the sporting community he loved so much.

 

As of 2025 Brock has been very active since his life changing injury. He has competed in the 2023 and 2024 World para surfing championships in Huntington beach California, played wheelchair basketball in the BC winter games and continued his love for golf. Brock has now shifted his focus to competing all over Canada and the USA in adaptive golf tournaments.

Brock continues to prove that with a positive mindset and attitude anything is possible.
