March 27, 2024 Update: We got the call this morning from the vet hospital at 9am telling us that Wally is doing great! He’s bright, alert, he started eating again, and his liver values went from too high to read to lower (but still high) levels that are readable on the scale. His lymph nodes are still swollen but he gets to go home today!!!! He’ll be going home with steroid medications, appetite stimulants, and probiotics to help him stay comfortable at home while we wait for his test results next week that will determine if it’s B or T-Cell Lymphoma. From there, the oncologist will be able to figure out a more specific treatment for Wally.
Hi, we are Levi and Jennifer, and we just found out that our oldest son (Wally the Pembroke Welsh Corgi) has Lymphoma.
Anyone who has met Wally knows that he is the sweetest big boy. He loves people, but he is especially a mama's boy. He is so smart, but also so stubborn, and this is why we know he wants to fight and has the will to fight. We've had him since he was 12 weeks old and imagining him not in our lives is so, so hard. The past few years, especially the last couple months have been even harder with losing our cat Nibbles to Kidney Failure. She was only 5.
On March 25, 2024, we found two lumps on Wally's neck and found out that he had no appetite the entire day. We took him to the vet right away and the vet told us his lymph nodes were swollen and that they found other lymph nodes in his body the same. Before getting him tested, they already said the likelihood of this being cancer was high.
This morning, we received the call that the test came back positive, and he was diagnosed with cancer. I don't want to get into the nitty gritty, because writing this now to explain why we need the money is hard and the tears won't stop coming. He is only 9.5 years old and still has so much to live for. We are raising funds to help him get treated with chemotherapy. We transferred him to see an oncologist and even just these two visits now have cost us over $6000. It is estimated to be between ~$10-15k or more for his entire treatment. I know you may be thinking, "this is why you guys should have gotten pet insurance," but please save us the grief. We know.
Now, Levi and I are the last people to ask for help, because we never want to be a burden to others or make it seem like we're not okay, but this can really help us. This is a huge chunk of money up front, and we wouldn't do this if we had any other choice. We were given some options, but we want to fight. We want to know that we've done everything we could for this boy. I know this was a lot to read, but anything helps.
Thank you,
Jenn
