Walpole Aquathlon 2024

Donation protected
Walpole Aquathlon is a community event in its 4th year and this year we are raising money for Rise Up Clean Up.
Local swim and run enthusiasts do either a 700m or 1500m swim in Walpole Bay Tidal pool, then straight into either a 5km or 10km run along the coast to Botany Bay. We have entrants of all levels taking part, from the once a year have a go crew to the hardcore athletes out to smash the full distance. We also have teams of swimmers and runners partnering up so that everyone can get involved. With the wonderful Margate community out to cheer on our athletes while they sweat it out to earn your donations, its a brilliant day for an amazing cause.
This year we are raising money for Rise Up Clean Up

RISE UP. CLEAN UP. is a community-driven social initiative with a mission to clean up Margate’s beaches and protect the local coastline, ocean and native wildlife.

Set up as a result of the excessive amount of litter left on Margate’s beautiful beaches.

RISE UP. CLEAN UP. hopes to inspire, unite and empower the local community to take action as one unit. Learn how you can get involve
Our Mission.
To inspire people to come together as a community, and seek creative solutions that will tackle the issue of litter on our beaches.
Organise.

To organise regular community beach cleans – providing litter pickers, and bin bags to all those who want to be involved.

Engage.

To be a visible presence on the beaches during the busier summer season – talking to the public, collecting litter and handing out bin bags.
Change.

To work with the council and relevant tour/transport operators to tackle the problem at all levels, promoting meaningful and long-lasting change.
Funding goes towards providing littler picking equipment to the community free of charge. We also supply around 30,000 free rubbish bags every year through our TidyPac stations along Margate Main Sands. This project needs year round funding. The Rise Up Residency is an ongoing public art project which sees an internationally renowned artist coming to Margate each year to create a mural which highlights the climate emergency. All of these projects require funding and we rely entirely on the generosity of local people and businesses for these funds
