Walter Coffey Memorial Fund

Walter Lynn Coffey, age 80, passed away on December 7, 2020, at The Serenity House. Morristown West High School has lost its #1 fan. Walter started life with severe disabilities and he spent his early years learning to overcome his physical limitations and becoming self-sufficient. Walter watched from his home as the new West High School was being built across the street. Once the school opened, Walter’s life centered around West High. He could be seen on the sidelines at the football games, leading the crowd in his signature cheers. Every West fan remembers Walter’s “Two bits, four bits, sixteen dollars” and his “We got spirits” cheers. Walter was in the stands for basketball games and served as a bat boy for the baseball team. And his support wasn’t limited to home games. Most West athletes can tell a story of riding the bus with Walter to away games. Win or lose, Walter was there. Walter was inducted into the inaugural class of West High Hall of Fame, recognized for his contribution to school spirit. He baked biscuits and cakes for the West high staff, and many are privileged to own an afghan crocheted by Walter.

Help us keep his memory and school spirit alive.
