Walter get through his 12 months of chemo

Hi my name is Helen and our beautiful, full of life grandson has a genetic disease called Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). It is a condition that can effect the eyes, nervous system, skin, cardiovascular system and spine. After genetic testing and MRI it has been confirmed that Walter has a tumour on his right optic nerve and if untreated can result in him losing his sight. The treatment for the process of combatting this tumour starts with 12 months of weekly chemo, then regular scans and tests until he is 16.

This is a diagnosis that has rocked our whole family. The hardest part is trying to explain to Walter's brother who is only 12 months older than him what is happening and why Walter needs medicine to get better. It is going to be a hard 12 months on all of us with regular trips to the hospital at least weekly if not more as he will have to be taken to the hospital any time he gets sick. Walter is so small and it is important that we can be with him during this time which will mean time off work for all of us and increased travel costs.

The funds will be used to cover medical costs, transport costs, loss of wages and ways to spoil both the boys to get them through this hard period in their lives. Hopefully they are both young enough it will be something they do not remember lot about.

Our only bright spot in this whole situation is that at this stage the tumour is currently benign but unfortunately doesn't make the cost any less just means we will still have our little chief at the end of it all.
