Walter Keys Memorial - Bainbridge Island

Donation protected
Help fund a new memorial to share the incredible story of Walter Keys’ historic impact on Bainbridge Island! A veteran of the Spanish American War, WWI, businessman, outdoorsman and tireless civic leader. From 1918-1957, Walter Keys led Bainbridge Island's transformation from remote, mosquito-fleet accessible settlements to the integrated, road and bridge-accessible community it is today. His countless contributions led to continuously improving living conditions for islanders of the time. After Walter’s death in 1957, islanders banded together and made donations to build the ferry terminal plaza and raise a flagpole in honor of his remarkable service. We hope to create the new memorial in a similar community effort.

Goal: 1,000 donations of $10
*Donations over $10 will improve on the planned memorial

Memorial details: Designed by Jeff Oens (https://jeffoensstudio.wordpress.com), a very talented Bainbridge bronze sculpture artist, we aim for the new memorial to help recognize and inspire the many ways we can all serve our country and community throughout our lives, as Mr. Keys did.

*Project in partnership with the Keys family, BSA Troop 1496, Washington State Ferries, Contrack Watts and Jeff Oens Studio
