Support for Walter Sharpe & his family

Organizing this on behalf of a good friend of mine, Walter Sharpe and his family to help them bring Walter home.

In June 2023, Walter suffered a massive stroke leaving significant damage to his speech, swallowing, and the use of the left side of his body. After a six week stay at Stony Brook he was transferred to a rehab facility to receive therapy. Setbacks and hospitalizations have made Walter’s recovery long and exhausting. He has regained his ability to talk and swallow, but continues to need modifications when eating. He is still unable to walk but can maneuver a wheelchair.

As his insurance coverage has reached the limit for the rehab facility, his family has decided to bring him home to continue his care and therapy. In order to do that there are a few home modifications the family needs to make first, including a ramp to allow Walter’s wheelchair to enter the home. With your support, myself and friends of Walter will build the ramp and work to make any additional modifications he needs to be comfortable.

We are hopeful that as therapy continues at home he will improve.
