Austin was diagnosed with Stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma in April 2021 at 36 years old. He discovered a small lump on top on his collarbone, which led to a number of biopsies and imaging. A PET scan showed tumors in his left kidney, his pancreas, multiple lymph nodes & in the head of his femur.

Surgeons quickly operated on his leg to reduce the risk of fracture, removed the tumor and strengthened the area with a metal plate & bone cement. As soon as he was able, Austin was started on immunotherapy pills and monthly infusions. Throughout the 18 months of that treatment, he had radiation at different sites for different reasons, and overall the disease was well controlled.

In December 2022, an updated scan revealed a new growth in the head of the pancreas. A plan to change drugs and zap the area with radiation were put into place. Unfortunately, the radiation did not stop the growth of the tumor, but also severely damaged a nearby portion of Austin’s stomach.

Ulcerations were found in Austin’s stomach (duodenum) but prescription therapy was not providing any relief. After losing +50lbs in less than 6 months, we were finally able to meet with a surgeon for possible intervention.

The 6 months leading up to this surgery had Austin spending the majority of his day in bed, curled up in the fetal position, despite heavy pain meds. The chronic pain from the ulcers and possibly the growing tumors has kept him from being the amazing dad he’s always been.

Our three kids - Benjamin (9) Graham (7) & Austyn (4), have been so brave through all of this, all of us holding on our faith and trusting that God has big plans for us!

Surgery was successful on Friday, June 23rd and included the removal of Austin’s entire pancreas, the damaged part of his stomach, his left kidney, multiple abdominal tumors, his gallbladder and his spleen. Although surgery has significantly lowered his cancer burden, he is not completely cancer free. We are hopeful that information from the excised tumors will help his doctors target therapy in his future.

We have been prayed over and so loved throughout this journey ♥️ This page is a place for people to make financial contributions as they can. Thank you for following along and please keep praying! #adubstrong
