The Reason:
As a parent in a tough situation the first thing we think about is how our family is going to be impacted. Dealing with the finality of a life threatening disease raises this concern to an unimaginable level. The thought of keeping a roof over their head and ensuring that day-to-day necessities will be met can become overwhelming.
The Goal:
To ease the mind and give a sense of relief by ensuring that his family will always have a place to call home.
The Person:
"V -Strong" is the driving force behind the Horizon High School boys’ basketball team for the past 2 Years. The team wanted to pay tribute to the strength and determination that Coach Velasquez displays in his battle with cancer. The basketball team rallied the Horizon HS student body to pay tribute to his contributions to their program. This is just one example of the impact that Coach V has had on countless student athletes. Coach V has been an educator and a coach in the Adams 12 School District for 17 years. Coach V has served as a mentor working with some of the districts toughest students, coaching them through some of their life’s most difficult times. Over his 17 years in education, Coach V has coached basketball at Thornton HS and Horizon High School, football at Thornton HS, Academy Charter HS and Green Mountain HS. Coach V has received many phone calls over the years from former students and athletes expressing the impact he has had in their lives. This is an opportunity to give back to someone who has watched over so many of our children for so many years.
