Help Waqas Buy a Solar Power System for his School
Donation protected
Waqas Haider is a graduate student at Vanderbilt in the US and resident of a small village in Punjab, Pakistan. In November 2019, Waqas established a vocational school for girls aged 15-26 who have never been to school or had to drop out to support their families. The girls go through an accelerated learning program and digital literacy course to learn to read and write, and operate computers, as well as a year-long dressmaking course under the supervision of highly-skilled trainers to learn the art of stitching. Since the inception of the school, 51 girls have graduated and are now working at their homes, earning more lucrative wages to help support their families and community.
Electricity blackouts are common in Pakistan, especially in rural areas, and our village endures outages for 4-6 hours a day. Without power, the school’s operations are interrupted and students’ learning is being affected. We would like to establish renewable energy infrastructure for the school in order to provide a better education for our students.
The village is located in one of the hottest regions of Pakistan which receives 9.5 hours of sunlight in summers and 6 hours of sunlight in winters. Waqas plans to install a solar energy system at the school through a local solar vendor. Using a 6 kWh solar power setup, the school can generate enough electricity for daily operations.
In these uncertain times, your kind donations will power up Waqas’s school, help the students continue learning and eventually earn to support their families.
