Hello, my name is Nidal Abu Samra, a resident of Gaza. I studied the field of journalism and media in Gaza. I am 31 years old and was born and raised under the occupation of Palestine. I will say I learned to adapt accordingly until the time, or actually the moment we saw ourselves under bombardment and destruction. On October 21, 2023, the house we were in was bombed, and in a split second, the house was bombed and I was buried under the debris. The people who saved me said it was 30 minutes, they were the longest 15 minutes of my life. Everything looked dark around me. I smelled smoke under the rubble, and I wondered if people would save me and get me out. Thanks to God, I was pulled out of the wreckage of the house half an hour after the missile was dropped on us. At that moment, I did not feel any pain, and I was surprised that my injuries were serious, I heard that from the people who saved me. I still didn’t know what happened to my family. After that, I learned that my brothers were moderately injured, and my father suffocated from the smells emanating because of the explosion and killed him. We are now displaced in Gaza. I am recovering my injuries: two broken ribs, deep facial wounds that needed stiches, broken jaw which had to be locked for four weeks to heal, two fractures in my right foot, and burns in my back. I can only walk for no more than a few meters, then I need to rest. Dead people and body parts are still everywhere and bombardment is on around the clock as we speak. Despite all my health issues, I enjoy helping the people in my community out of my deep sense of humanity and social solidarity.
