Warm Alicia's Home: Help Replace Her Boiler
Donation protected
Dear wonderful people,
Alicia Grullón needs a new boiler!
If you know Alicia, you know that she is always involved with supporting her community: from her organizing work with the North Bronx Collective, to collaborations with artists far and wide, to her dedicated pedagogical work with her students, to hosting people, to anyone on the street who is in need -- Alicia has been there for all of us.
Now we need to be there for her.
This year, Alicia received the financially shocking news that her boiler, which has been an essential part of her family's home since 1951, needs to be replaced. She has gotten an estimate from a contractor she trusts and it will cost approximately $18,000 to make the necessary repairs -- assuming that no other issues are found, there are no hidden fees (and you know there are always hidden fees!), and nothing else goes wrong during the process.
As an artist, a single parent to two wonderful teenagers, and an adjunct instructor, it comes as no surprise that Alicia does not have $18,000 sitting around in her back pocket. She has spent the spring and summer applying to every possible program to alleviate the costs of this repair, but no one has come through.
So now it's up to us.
This fundraiser is to support Alicia, Elielle, and Eija's new boiler: to warm their home, provide them with basic comfort, and give back to them a little bit of the love, warmth and care that they extend to so many others.
Alicia and her family (her parents, sibling, and now her children) have lived in their home since 1984. The stability of their housing enables Alicia's important work in family, in community, and in creative life. Let's do what we can to make the Grullóns' next 40 years in their home warm and bright!
