Winter Coats Needed Urgently in Long Branch!

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Montgomery County Police, Montgomery County Recreation, Silver Spring Cares, the Silver Spring Regional Services Center and CHEER are partnering to get coats to neighbors in need! We're raising money to purchase winter coats for the Long Branch community.

Wonderful local PTAs successfully distributed a significant number of coats, but the community has let us know that more are urgently needed. A plan for an additional 500 coats from a major retailer was off to a great start but the timeframe for delivery has become uncertain.

There are cold kids and adults out there now, so anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to raising funds, a coat collection will take place Dec. 27 – Jan. 5 at locations across the County.

You can drop off new or clean, gently used coats in dignity condition at the following locations starting Tuesday, Dec. 27:

Please note these Community Recreation Centers will be operating on a holiday schedule Dec. 27 – 31 ( see the pdf here: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec/Resources/Files/2022-23%20Holiday%20Hours.pdf ) and closed on Jan. 1 and 2.

The goal is to collect more than 500 new or gently used winter coats of all sizes.

Free coats will be distributed to those in need on Friday, Jan. 6, at Long Branch Community Recreation Center. Coats will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of one coat per person. The recipient must be present to receive a coat. Registration is not required.
