To date, Warrior Music Foundation remains the only organization in the greater Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia locality that provides free music therapy services to active military, veterans, and their families. Warrior Music Foundation’s primary objective is to use music therapy to treat the long-term mental health effects that the military community continues to experience including military sexual trauma (MST), PTSD, TBI, anxiety, and depression. Following an initial assessment, our board-certified music therapists develop individualized treatment plans, which aim to: Improve communication skills, including expressive and receptive communication via musical improvisations, songwriting, and lyric analysis; improve cognitive skills by creating musical mnemonics for everyday information; decrease the symptoms of anxiety by providing opportunities for relaxation via music with guided imagery; improve sleeping patterns by teaching relaxation techniques via music and guided imagery; and regulating mood and affect by creating customized music playlists.
Since our inception in 2017, approximately 150 individuals have completed our music therapy program. We currently have approximately 200 individuals on our waitlist, with approximately 25% of them being assessed as “high-risk” for key mental health considerations. Our music therapy program is so impactful that many of our alumni remain in the program, often serving as program mentors and advocates for the efficacy of music therapy.
We need your help to keep this program funded. Simply put, you can help save a life. In order to provide the help we need to the people on our waitlist. We need to raise an additional $100k just for music therapy services. Any donation helps, but we also need major donors. Help spread the word and make a difference today.
