DETAILED STORY:
Our daughter Aidrian Rosser was transported from our home by ambulance to the hospital on Friday, April 7, 2023 because of severe abdominal pain and vomiting that was yellow and turned green. She was diagnosed with severe pancreatitis and early the next morning spiked a fever and went into hypotension shock (potential organ failure), therefore transferred to the PICU. She was placed on a ventilator and heavily sedated. A week later, an incision was performed to relieve the pressure from fluid buildup. Aidrian was given a paralytic medicine so she would not move to allow healing so the belly swelling can reduce enough to close the incision. Her levels got back to normal and the paralytic medicine was discontinued while was still given sedation medicine to keep her comfortable and resting while she was still on the ventilator. Aidrian went to surgery every two to three days to get her organs inspected & cleaned and to change out the wound vac; She had been to surgery 13 times and was open so long that she got a fungus and had to take an anti fungal medication. Finally the swelling of her belly went down enough and her condition allowed the plastic surgeon to to close the incision on Monday May 22nd. Thirty two staples have been removed from Aidrian’s incision and her belly swelling is decreasing little by little. She developed celulitis as well on her thighs and groin area and they is going away with antibiotics. Her ventilator and two drain plugs have been removed. She has been weaned off the fentanyl and the methadone but occasionally has to receive other medicine to help her endure the symptoms of withdrawals; Sometimes Aidrian will have spasms that make her arms, legs, and belly twitch repeatedly as though she is having a seizure. After Aidrian began tolerating low amounts of g-tube feedings, Aidrian was transferred to a regular floor on Wednesday June 7th. Her feedings were increased too quickly because she kept vomiting and losing her food and then we had to give her gut a rest. She started tolerating lower feeds for longer period of time, however, because of becoming more alert and nervous around the new nurses and with the phlegm build up, she was gagging more. During one of the times she vomited, she desatted to the 70s and was continually choking so the nurse was notified who contacted the doctor and it was determined that Aidrian aspirated. Her previous labs from that morning came back negative for any virus but the X-rays showed that Aidrian had aspiration pneumonia so she was transferred back to the PICU on that day, Friday June 16th. It seems like it’s gonna take more time and a slower feeding schedule to achieve the necessary goal for her progress. You can view details on Aidrian’s daily progress posted on my Facebook page, click here . Our Warrior Princess has overcome a lot in the past few months is healing slowly but surely. Her medical expenses are all covered by insurance. My wife and I have not been able to work that much since this all started on Easter weekend, and it looks like Aidrian will not go home until she can get back to a specific level of her normal feedings without relying additionally on the TPN / IV nutrition. Hopefully Aidrian will get discharged and checked out of the hospital before summer is completely over but it’s hard to gauge at this point. We are asking everybody to pitch in and help a little to make a big difference to help with our regular bills for the months we have had to be at the hospital and our projected duration of stay.
