Our Football Motto is Warrior Strong! Maryvale Proud! When we think of which Western School of Science and Technology Student Athlete embodies that model and has represented our school and Maryvale community to the highest level, we can’t think of any other than Adan Zapien. Adan started playing football for Western School of Science and Technology as a 7th grader and from that 1st year we knew, that if he would put in the work on and off the field he would do great things and he did. Adan has become our most decorated Student Athlete in Western School of Science and Technology History. He has won a handful of Individual and Team Awards.

And most recently Adan has been offered an Athletic Scholarship to play football at Arizona Christian University and Major in Criminal Justice.
This is definitely great news for Adan, but as you might or might not know, an Athletic Scholarship to an NAIA University does not cover all of his tuition. Adan has been working hard applying for multiple private scholarships and working a part time job to pay for tuition, but is in need of our help to make his dream come true and attend college.
One of Adan’s major strengths is his unselfishness and his willingness to help others. As a 7th grader Adan joined Heart for the City, a non-profit organization that helps young inner city kids stay out of trouble by playing tackle football. Heart for the City gives students the equipment to play and in return the students do community service. Adan’ has never stopped giving back to the community. He is always willing to help in school community events, car washes, gift drives, canned food drives, and most recently helping coach our own 3-5 year old Flag Football teams. He also helps in Heart For The City events and volunteers as a Chain Crew for the Arizona Cactus Football League.
It is time that we come together as a community to help our own, to help someone that has given so much to Western School of Science and Technology and the Maryvale Community. Adan is a product of the Western Warriors, Heart for the City, and the Maryvale Community. He is an example of what things can be, when you work hard, are responsible, respectful, humble, and have faith.
