Wasa's mast is broken in the Red Sea

Desaster has happened!

The Mast of Wasa was broken during its journey into the Red Sea. As (sailing) friends we want to support Paul. Paul is positive and can hopefully continue his journey soon. In Europe he will most likely have to look for a new mast. That is why we want to support him financially.

Hopefully he can continue his journey and soon enter calmer waters.

Paul on Instagram:
"Two nights ago, my mast broke. It has been the tenth night at see after my departure in Djibuti.
It is weird. Only ten hours before the accident, I had to beat upwind into 33+kts of wind, 3m waves, etc. - nothing happened.
Then, in - luckily - relatively calm seas [+Edit: only 10 - 15 kts of Wind], I had just gone to bed for a short sleep, I heard a banging against the hull. I rushed outside and saw the upper part of the mast, hanging down into the water with all sails, etc, danging against the boat.

I managed to recover everything out of the water and strap it to the side of the boat. I informed the Navy via satellite phone about my situation and started motoring towards the closest port: Port Benice, about 63nm away.
Somewhen the next morning, about 15nm away from the harbor, I was met by an Egyptian Coastguard boat. They guided me through the reefs until a second boat arrived, which finally took me into tow so that we arrived at the dock during daylight.

For now, I don't have a plan yet, how this problem finally can be solved. It is a totally new situation, and I am in a military base in the middle of the desert.
(Therefore, I am not even allowed to leave the boat without guidance)

But there are some positive things as well:

The Egyptian Navy and the military are super friendly and so supportive! I even got some fresh cooked food and snacks delivered!

Everyone seems to search for a solution and wants to help me.
It might take some time, and I will need to find a way to finance the repairs.
But I am already quite positive that there will be a solution!

Thanks to everyone who has been involved in the rescue! And also thanks to everyone who already messaged me or otherwise sent his/ her support! It is very nice to have this supportive feeling in my back "
