Washburn's Diaper Drive!
Donation protected
The SO310 Diaper Drive is a HICEP (High Impact Community Engagement Practice) project, which encourages students to get involved in the local community. In particular, this project with bring a local community partner, Community Action, to tackle a "hidden" consequence of American poverty, which many single parents encounter. Lack of diapers is a largely unknown problem to the public. About 1 in 3 mothers experience a diaper need in the United States. Diapers are one of the most basic necessities for mothers and their babies and government assistance programs like SNAP or WIC do not cover diapers.
Community Action of Topeka is a leading local agency to assist families with overcoming challenges. Community Action rules a wide range of programs including Head Start and Food Assistance. This partnered project is a great opportunity for students to utilize sociological lessons, assist families in need, and raise awareness of the diaper need issue.
Diapers will be donated to Community Action.
We also wanted to highlight the financial impact the COVID-19 pandemic is going to have for the individuals Community Action serve, especially those who may have lost their jobs temporarily or permanently due to this pandemic. This is an extremely hard time for low-income parents in need, so any donations would be helpful and much appreciated.

We regret to inform you all of this. Any cash donations or donations online are still accepted and greatly appreciated. We are accepting online donations through May 15th.
