Support A Black Trans Artist with Moving & Safety
Hello, I'm Ameirah. I’m a Black Trans freelance artist currently living in Washington DC. I have a BA in Fashion Merchandising and an Associates in Fashion Design. I make custom apparel (tote bags, pencil pouches, etc) and I’m a painter. My artistry is about showing the beauty of Black women, and Black lgbtq people. At the end of 2019 I decided to pursue my art full time, as previous work environments weren’t always safe or supportive. Then, in 2020 as we all know, COVID-19 hit and it affected my potential to get customers and took a huge toll on my mental state and well-being. I live with Manic Depressive Bipolar Disorder and that, mixed with the pandemic and the isolation, has made these last few years very rough. I lost my mom in 2012, the only supportive family member, I’ve been on my own ever since. What gives me hope and keeps me going are the friends I’ve made in New York, they are my support system and my family.
As a survivor of domestic violence, I have been getting support from the DC, an organization that helps house domestic abuse survivors, but that support will be ending at the end of June. All of these things are pushing me into my next chapter of life, but I need support from my community to get there.
My goal is to relocate to New York City where I’ve made a strong community of artist, and trans and queer people to help me feel safer and supported. Being in NYC will allow me to pursue my art with more passion and freedom. All funds received will go towards my move to New York, my art career (paint supplies, fabric and materials, building a website, etc), and my survival in this next chapter of life.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and I truly appreciate any support you’re able to give! If you are currently interested in some of my work and would like to know about pricing and options, please message me on Instagram @thevainbeauty.
With Gratitude,
Ameirah
