Water for Naisau Village, Indonesia
Don protégé
BACKGROUND
Naisau is a remote village located in the Lo Kufeu district within the Malacca Regency in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. It is currently facing a water crisis that impacts the lives of 523 residents with 145 registered families. The village has little access to road networks and water sources, in which the nearest water source is located atop a hill between Naisau and its neighbouring village, Biau.
Despite Solar Chapter’s previous efforts of helping the neighbouring communities (Biau and As Manulea Village) to get clean water access, Naisau Village has yet to receive an accessible water source. Multiple strenuous efforts such as trekking up the mountain and digging a well to fetch water have been made - yet, the villagers are still left with no attainable and sustainable way to access clean water.
Current situation:
- Clean water is a crucial need for sanitation purposes in Naisau.
- Water is essential for sustaining crop growth and ensuring productivity.
- Villagers are currently paying a high price of Rp. 100,000 - 150,000 for 5,000 liters of water supply.
- The high water cost worsens the villagers' heavy financial burden, as they have to spend around 25% of their average income just to purchase water.
Providing a sustainable water access solution to Naisau would not only improve the villagers' quality of life but also support their economic growth.

OUR SOLUTION
To make clean water accessible for Naisau, Solar Chapter Melbourne is committed to setting up a permanent solar-powered water pump. The water will be extracted from the spring using the pump and directed to the reservoir through transmission pipes.
Through our project, we can help the Naisau villagers:
- To not have to walk for ~1.2 km to fetch water daily or purchase clean water from the village nearby,
- To save them from spending more than A$2,500 per year,
- To use their time and energy for other important tasks, such as improving the level of education, developing the village, and preserving their culture.

FUNDING ALLOCATION
To make this project a success, we need approximately A$29,750 in funds by the project implementation date, which will fall in December 2023. The funds raised (in AUD) will be allocated for the following purposes:
Water for Naisau (TOTAL: A$29,750):
- Solar Panel and Pump System (A$19886)
- Pipes (A$2679)
- Site Visit (A$2140)
- Shipping (A$1989)
- Advertising and Promotion (A$249)
- General and Administrative (A$99)
- Management and Monitoring Fee (A$2708)
Your donation can make a SIGNIFICANT impact on the LIVES of the villagers in Naisau Village. Let us come together to provide sustainable clean water access to those in need.
Solar Chapter Melbourne believes that all people, whoever and wherever they are, deserve to have access to clean water. Do you?
