Water Hand Pumps for Villages in Pakistan
Donation protected
Story behind the mission:
It all started when a massive monsoon flood disaster struck Pakistan in 2010, causing magnanimous damage to the infrastructure, housing, agriculture, and livestock including other family assets. Funds were initially raised to support the flood blighted families and intermittent donations were sent in the form of aid raised from generous donors, who joined hands to assist - one of which was to supply clean water by means of hand pumps installation. However, the problem continued to grow with time and even until now people had to walk more than 2km to fetch a bucket of clean water.
Therefore, this initiative was taken in a purposeful manner to encourage people to participate in this cause. Donors will have the names of their deceased loved ones written on plaques, labelled on the hand pumps, for hand pump users to recite Fateha/Prayers for the named person. Fetching clean water from these hand pumps thus becomes a form of offering Sadaqa-e-Jaariya (continuous charity) for the deceased.
Following districts in Pakistan have been focussed so far Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, and Muzaffargarh

We have a team comprising of 8 members (in different villages) who are working tirelessly to find out where hand pumps are most needed, by conducting personal visits, authenticate, and thereafter arrange installation, handover, and maintenance of hand pumps.
The process is as follows:
1. Khan Bela- a supplier for machinery on KLP Road in Rahim Yar Khan who supplies hand pumps. This is a huge store which provides material and technical assistance as well, like labour for boring, drilling and installation works.
2. Total cost of a hand pump is GBP 80-120, (basic and commercial hand pumps).
2. Total cost of a hand pump is GBP 80-120, (basic and commercial hand pumps).
3. Our dedicated team members identify and personally visit the places from where hand pump requests are received. They also evaluate areas/ places of high demand, like school, highways, mosques, or a remote small community, which are lacking easy access to water supply.
4. After authenticating the requirement, an order for hand pumps is then placed and delivery is verified.
5. Raw material arrangement such as cement, gravel, sand, concrete preparation etc is undertaken by members of the team.
6. Around 150-200 bricks are used to secure a hand pump well in place.
7. Plaque cutting is done and hand painted.
8. Skilled Boring and drilling labour is provided by hand pump suppliers themselves. At times, work is doubled when 70 – 120 ft boring ends up in hitting a rock or roots of a withered tree, which results in restarting the same process at a another place.
9. Once a hand pump is installed and functional, videos and pictures are taken and sent across to the donor.
10. Maintenance of hand-pumps is also undertaken.

Complete details of donors, funds received, and all expenditure, beneficiaries of hand pumps and the location of hand pumps is documented. Donors can be provided with the details and location of their donated hand pumps, whenever needed by them.
Since the launch of this initiative, we have successfully installed 658 hand pumps till date, and we intend to add 100 more hand pumps every year ....
Looking forward to joining hands and supporting our deprived brothers and sisters with their right to a basic necessity of life -- WATER!
