Help Us Secure Reliable Water for Our Off-Grid Home.
We are Theresa & Arturo, a young couple building our home on a beautiful hilltop property in Mazunte, Oaxaca, Mexico—but our biggest challenge is access to water. German version below!
The Problem: An Unreliable Water Supply
We are connected to the town water main, but it is extremely unreliable due to the growing population and water scarcity in the region.
Sometimes, we receive close to 2,000L per week, but in recent weeks, we have been getting less than 200L.
This is barely enough for basic needs like drinking, cooking, and hygiene. Other families in our area also struggle with the same issue. Additionally, during the rainy season, roads become impassable, making emergency water deliveries impossible.

Our Solution: A Sustainable Water System
To ensure a reliable, self-sufficient water supply, we need your support to:
✅ Build a cistern to store water when the town supply is running.
✅ Develop a rainwater harvesting system with ground swells, filtration gardens, and a reservoir that will evolve into a self-sustaining pond.
✅ Upgrade our existing water infrastructure to optimize what little water we receive.
Why This Matters
Water is a basic necessity, and the current system isn’t enough. With your support, we can:
- Store more water when it’s available.
- Become less dependent on the unreliable town supply.
- Create a sustainable water system that supports both us and the surrounding land.
- Help future families in the area develop water solutions for their own homes.
The picture below is an example of a rain harvesting system in the area. The water reservoir is filled with a series of ground swells that are used to guide rain towards the lowest spot within the property.

How Your Donation Helps
- Cistern Construction (10,000–20,000L capacity): $2,000–$3,500 USD
- Rainwater Harvesting System (gutters, filters, canals, reservoir): $5,000–$6,000 USD
- Tools, labor, and transportation costs : $3,000–$3,500 USD
- Food & Support for Volunteers Helping with the Project: $500–$1000 USD
Total Goal: $10,500–$14,000 USD

We are deeply committed to sustainable living and permaculture. Every step of this project respects the land, conserves resources, and creates a model for water resilience in this growing community.
We can’t do this alone. Every donation—big or small—helps us secure water for our home and create a more sustainable future.
Please share & support!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Theresa & Arturo
