Water Wells for Uganda

Matthew 10:42

“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.”

Thank you for this opportunity to present our work and appeal.

“The Mission for the Poor” is a nonprofit organization based at the Basilica of St. Hyacinth in Chicago.  We support Polish Franciscan missionaries working in Uganda and Polish priests from “The Congregation of the Resurrection” in Tanzania, who serve the poorest and most vulnerable people.  Besides evangelization, the focus of their work is the education of children from extremely poor families and orphans.  They also help people to gain access to basic life necessities such as food, water, and medicine.  Thanks to people of good will and the proceeds of many bake sales, in the last three years, “The Mission for the Poor” has been able to sponsor almost two hundred children, providing them with an education as well as one meal a day.

In addition, we have contributed money towards building two churches, one in Buhemba, Tanzania and one in Matugga, Uganda.  We helped build a kindergarten in Munyonyo, Uganda and equipped it with educational aids.  Our funds helped buy a tractor for an Eco Farm in Kakooge, Uganda, where the Franciscan brothers recently opened an agriculture school and teach farming not only to students, but also to local people.  At the moment, we are helping to supply food for victims of COVID19.

Our present goal is to raise money for building water wells.  Villages and small settlements in Uganda and Tanzania do not have communal water supplies and water wells are rare.  Much needed water is mostly drawn from wetlands or rivers.  In most African countries, children are responsible for supplying the family with water.  Starting at a very young age, children carrying plastic containers, walk miles to get water for everyday use, at least twice a day.

We have already been able to finance two wells in two villages near Kampala, the capitol city of Uganda.  The cost of one well is approximately  $6, 000.00 to $10,000.00.  We are appealing for donations to build more water wells.  Our goal, on this site, is to raise money for at least one well.

Since all the people working for “The Mission for the Poor” are volunteers, 100% of all donations will go to our Franciscan missionaries in Uganda.  With the help of geologists, they will select the well sites and supervise their construction.

We appeal to people of good will to help us build water wells in Uganda.  Your donation will help the poorest of the poor to gain access to clean drinking water.  It will also help ease the extremely difficult life of poor children.  If you are unable to donate money at this time to this lifesaving cause, we humbly ask you for your spiritual support and prayers.

We will keep donors informed of the progress made in constructing water wells for the most vulnerable people in Uganda.  We will provide the names of the villages and their populations when wells are being built as well as post pictures from these locations.  Thank you and God Bless!
