Waverly Helping Waverly
Hi, my name is Jim Hicks, and I was a graduate of Waverly High School in Lansing, MI, back in 1977. With the help of my friend and ex-band member Mark Bortz, who now resides in Nashville, TN, I'm hoping to raise money for the flood victims in Waverly, TN. After seventeen inches of rain last Saturday and unprecedented flooding, for the foreseeable future, people there will be struggling to put their lives back together.
My dad's family actually came to Michigan after a record-breaking flood of the Mississippi in 1927, when my grandfather lost the family farm in Obion County, TN; so for me this seems like a case of "what goes around, comes around."
Obviously, our country has some serious political divides these days, but there's still plenty that has nothing to do with politics, since it's simply about people's survival.
Please do all you can to help, and also share this appeal with all the rest of the good folks from our old school. Obviously, the needs are immediately, so we're planning this as a one-week fundraiser.
Waverly needs to step up, and help Waverly out!
