Help Wayne battle Clear Cell Renal Carcinoma
Donation protected
I'm Wayne's daughter, Alissa, the baby of three. My parents are celebrating their 25th anniversary this week. We all expected this to be a joyous time, but my dad received news we didn't expect to come for years down the line.
In early 2019, my father began feeling ill; he had abdominal pain and had fainted at home once. But, he was insistent on working through his pain, like he had in recent years.
A few months later, on August 26th, he went to the ER with blood in his urine. Doctors were concerned about how high his sugar levels read and ordered a full workup with scans and bloodwork. By the 28th, a football-sized tumor was found on his right kidney. Local doctors referred him to the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Newnan, Georgia.
The Cancer Treatment Center first saw my dad on September 16th, 2019. They confirmed his diagnosis: Advanced Clear Cell Renal Carcinoma. With the severity of his cancer, they moved quickly. He had appointments every day leading up to his surgery, where they removed the tumor and his kidney, on the 20th. My mom stayed with him in a hotel during this time and he used all of his vacation time to support them during his recovery.
Recovery summary: How was that for him?
My father was forced back to work, at Ambassador Personnel by Flower's Baking Company, as he needed money to support living and medical costs. He managed to go back to work on strict desk duty in December 2019, but lost his job by the first of 2020. Through no fault of his own, the company closed his location.
Since then, my dad has developed diabetes and depression. He has to take medicine to help his remaining kidney, heart medication, and finds it difficult to leave the house most days. He hasn't found work that will work with the new accommodations he requires. Due to this, he is in the process of applying for Disability.
With the loss of his job, he also became uninsured, and he isn't able to get his regular check-up scans. They were able to save up enough money to get a partial scan of his abdomen. On August 23rd, 2023, he was informed that his Advanced Clear Cell Renal Carcinoma was back. This time, a baseball-sized tumor on his adrenal glands.
My mom, Christine, is on a fixed income and can barely support them month-to-month as it is. There isn't a way that she can take on the upcoming medical bills without help. We're not entirely sure of every expense, but we plan on being transparent with his journey as it develops. Donations will go toward any medical interventions, medicines, bills, or household necessities that may be needed while Wayne battles cancer for a second time.
