Wayne “Grandpa” Dutton’s Healing Journey

Hello! My name is Heather Harper. This opportunity to provide support has been started (with acknowledgement and permission) from the Wayne and Laura (Grandma and Grandpa) Dutton family. Grandma and Grandpa Dutton are a fixture in Sumner County. Their love for our community and our families is evident. Grandma has kept all of my children from the time they were infants until now. (I often wonder when I get sick if she would let me come spend the day at her house. . .) Grandpa is no stranger to the softball fields, behind home plate and gyms across the state. Together, Grandma and Grandpa are staples in their church of Long Hollow. Grandpa has never met a stranger and if you have ever talked with him, you are quickly reminded that he is the true definition of love and compassion. Not to mention his mischievous, twinkling eyes when he reports out about my youngest child and her behavior each day.

Unfortunately, within the past 5 weeks, we were all devastated to learn that Grandpa has been diagnosed with an advanced stage of esophageal cancer. Knowing Grandpa, I know he would ask that you pray for their family. But, if you are like me----I am entirely impatient and find myself searching for other ways to show them my support. I know that many folks have asked how they can help. Can you bring them food? Can you come sit? Can you take him where he needs to go? What a blessing to have such faithful friends. Unfortunately because of his diagnosis, having meals provided are difficult.
