I'll try and keep this relatively brief, but i'm setting this up for my close friend, Wayne.
Some of you may know this, some of you probably don't, but Wayne (your favourite on set Security/Location Assistant, and one of my favourite people on earth) almost lost his life a few weeks ago while on holiday.
It turns out that Wayne had a cyst/stomach ulcer that he didn't know about for over a year, which burst while in Mexico on holiday. He was rushed to hospital with stomach pains in a country he couldn't speak the language and didn't know what was going on. Not only did it turn out he had internal bleeding, sepsis but his bowel was perforated, meaning he was leaking life threatening toxins into his body. They operated on him immediately and put him on a life support machine. It was very much touch and go for 24 hours and THANK GOD he pulled through. He woke up in intensive care having no idea what had happened, where he was or why. Wayne's guardian angel ( his gf Sasha) had been by his side for as long as she was allowed and Wayne's mum flew out as soon as she was told.
Wayne then spent several weeks in hospital recovering and was finally allowed out last week. He got the all clear he could fly home and thankfully arrived back today.
Thankfully Wayne had travel insurance that took care of the medical bills and getting him home. However, Wayne has been told he can't work for several months. He has to be extremely careful and delicate as he's had his whole body opened up and can't risk anything happening to him, as the consequences could be dire.
As you can imagine, as a freelance Security guy, Wayne has no health insurance and no prospect of any income until he's fully fit and back to normal. Therefore for the next few months (at the very least), Wayne is going to be in an extremely difficult financial situation - along with having to recover from a life threatening surgery.
This winter was looking bleak enough for Wayne (and many others), but right now he needs all the help he can get.
I thought this is one of the things I could do at the very least to help.
I'm sure you're the same as me and you want to see Wayne back smiling and laughing asap ( he'll have to give up the scooter and cigarettes though)
After losing Ben 7 years ago and now almost losing Wayne, this has been another real wake up call to cherish every moment you have with the people you love.
I know Wayne appreciates anything you can give more than you can imagine and hopefully he'll see you soon to say thank you.
Love
Rupert
