Wayne Smith - double lung transplant fund

Our father, Wayne Smith, was diagnosed with IPF (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) in February of 2022; ie - scarring of the lungs. IPF is not curable, we tried everything under the sun - from naturopathic medicine to prayer from the community. After numerous visits and extensive testing at the University of Washington, it was proven that Wayne was eligible for a double lung transplant. He was placed on the wait list in March of 2023, and shortly after got a call on March 14th (also known as pie day) for his double lung transplant.

His sisters ensured he got to the University of Washington quickly and safely. The procedure was 12 hours long, it was successful! Wayne recovered at UW Hospital for nearly 3 weeks, he was discharged to his temporary apartment in Bellevue to be near the hospital for the next 3 months. There is a reason why he needs to be near the hospital for the first 3 months as he has been admitted twice since surgery to tackle some hurdles along the way. He will be okay and the lungs will be okay. However, the costs from the testing, surgery, prescriptions, multiple hospital stays, and rent has caused an extensive amount of bills.

Wayne has always been an active member of the Quincy community. Giving the majority of his volunteerism to the Quincy Valley Historical Society and Museum, St Pius X Catholic Church, and to anyone in need of an extra hand.
