George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery are reminders of the ongoing assault on our black and brown bodies since this country was founded.  As communities of color we are now forced to navigate another trauma while navigating a pandemic that has hurt us in greater numbers.  As mental health providers dedicated to creating intentional space and services for our communities, we are raising money to cover the cost of mental health care and to support the online virtual walk-in hours. As a community we need to increase access to our communities during this time. To increase access we must also provide a service for the black and brown communities from people who also look like them, share similar stories, and have a connection that does not have to be spoken by words, but rather the feelings we hope to provide the safety to express.

Due to the pandemic of COVID-19 and the disproportionate impact on communities of color we have shifted the format of the Diversity of Us summit. Instead of a two-day in-person summit, we will build an online community until it is safe to gather in-person. 

The mortality rates from COVID-19 are significantly higher in communities of color. Additionally, our communities are often in positions now deemed “essential” (e.g. hospital staff, grocery store employees, public transit staff) which drastically increases their risk for contracting the virus.

Since MTR Therapy (est. 2015) and The Ladipo Group (est. 2004) were founded, they have been servicing communities of color. Under the umbrella of Diversity of Us, both companies are collaborating to meet the mental health needs of people of color that are often overlooked and underfunded.
