50 CATS & KITTENS AND 14 SICK HOARDING CATS
Hi everyone. My name is McKenzie and I run Dunn Right Cat Rescue. I know I sound like a broken record, constantly begging for donations and help with supplies, but I wouldn’t ask if we didn’t really need it. We have over FIFTY cats and kittens in our rescue right now, the most we have ever had at once. For funding this all on my own, this is completely overwhelming and stressful. Though I am working as much as I can to support this, I still have my own pets to care for and my own personal bills, and it is just a lot to afford right now. We have over 40 kittens who need to finish their vaccinations, get microchipped, and then be fixed. We have 8 moms who need to be vaccinated & spayed. We also have a few adults who need updated vaccines, some needing to be fixed. We are getting a mom and babies tomorrow. We are being asked to help with several new TNR jobs. Even though we received a TON of food donations over the last two days, we are quickly draining through them.
But most importantly, on top of all of this, we were recently called to help a very sad situation. A situation I will carry with me for awhile. In order to be respectful of the situation, I will be limited on what I can share.. But here’s what I can say.. an elderly individual passed away leaving behind many cats, living in deplorable conditions. Myself and another rescue geared up in our suits, and went inside to save the cats we needed to save. For anyone whose been in a condemned house to rescue cats, I am sure you can imagine the conditions, and most worse, the smell. I could barely breathe with two masks on, so imagine the poor cats lungs... We started our sweep and in three hours, by flashlight, we had everyone recovered safely. We had unfortunately found 3 deceased cats, but were proud to leave with 14. I remember my body just shook the entire drive home because I couldn’t believe what I had just witnessed. As expected, all the cats were in very poor condition. Upper respiratory infections, matted with feces & fleas, some severely underweight, some severely overweight. Bald patches, some walking funky and one who even has a head tilt due to such badly infested ears. They all have parasites, worms, and are absolutely terrified and confused. Right now there’s only two or three who have shown signs of being friendly. Unfortunately, just within the week we have already lost 4 of them because they were too far gone. One was humanely euthanized because his body was shutting down, one passed away during sedation during his exam, and the other two passed away from unknown causes, but we assume it’s from poor health and a broken heart The medical care for all these cats is going to be extremely costly, as they all need flea treatment and deworming, medications, all but one need to be fixed, some need bloodwork done, and we are expecting some to have complicated treatment plans due to just how poor their health is currently. We have our fingers crossed the rest can pull through. We really need your help to get these cats all the care they need, as they have a long road to recovery, and we want to make sure we have that option available to them, if they are willing to put up the fight. I have included some pictures below..
Please help our rescue keep saving lives. We can’t do this without the support of our friends, family, and community. All of these cats deserve the vet treatment they will receive, please help us cover some of the costs.
