Meet Jackie!

Jackie has dedicated her life to others.  She has spent her entire nursing career in the emergency dept, meeting people on the worst day of their lives and finding a way to make it better.  Giving scared kids a dollar before putting their IV in, having the cafeteria deliver them a special hamburger, and asking the doctor to help stitch up their stuffed animal to take the fear away of receiving their own stitches.

The special needs community holds a special place in her heart.  She once coordinated for a patient frequent to the emergency department to have a DVD player and collection of movies delivered to their group home, sending one of her nurses to make sure it got set up.  Jackie works every weekend and every holiday to allow her coworkers to be with their families on these special days.

Her hospital family convinced her to become an ordained minister so she could marry them, because who better to bless a marriage than Jackie! When not at work she runs a farm and breeds Bernese Mountain Dogs.  People often drop off animals to her that they can no longer care for because they know they will be safe with Jackie.  Nothing brings a smile to her face more than connecting a puppy with the perfect family.

Jackie has participated in several mission trips to Nicaragua with other healthcare workers to provide medical care and donate much needed supplies.  In true Jackie fashion she has developed personal relationships with the people of this community and they look forward to seeing her every year.  Jackie does not have children but if you’ve been lucky enough to work side by side with her, have her as your nurse, purchase a dog from her or even meet her in line at the grocery store than chances are you’ll consider yourself one of her children.

Our beloved Jackie is having medical issues that are making it hard for her to work. She says her days in nursing are far from over! Jackie’s passion is to protect the vulnerable and injured, even when it jeopardizes her own health.  Jackie doesn’t know how to be the patient, she doesn’t know how to be vulnerable or injured and it must be terrifying.  Please consider donating to Jackie so we can help her take some time to focus on her own care.
