This fundraiser:
Susan Scoggins opened Maples Coffee Shop and Bakery in Micaville, NC in 2014. The South Toe River Valley and Hwy 80, the road to Mt.Mitchell, begins right where she set her shop, in the building with OOAK gallery. The need was great for a coffee shop and a meeting place for a community of artists and writers.
Everyone was glad to see Maples open and to meet Susan, who is as sweet as anything she bakes. Her heart is always open to whoever enters the door, and her smile could brighten the darkest of days. Maples is where the poets gather for their open mic and our local musicians play to a full house. It is the central meeting place for all the people who live and work in this valley.
We need her, and now she needs us. She had *just moved* to a larger location next door that would open new options to offer her community when COVID19 closures hit the nation. Everyone must stay home. Businesses can't operate without their customers, and small independents are the hardest hit.
Please, let's don't allow Susan Scoggins and Maples to go the way of so many others. We care. We need her. We need Maples. I think we can at least pay her rent and wages for the next couple of months so it will be there when we, hungry poets, musicians, and mountain men and women go back to work and continue our creative lives.
Love is a verb, my friends. Show your love by sharing some of what you have to help keep our favorite coffee shop and sweet midwife of creativity open! We are going to need her more than ever.
