Intro
Co-founders Perry, Jeweliet and Sam have come together to create an organization that rescues & rehabilitates kids affected by sexual abuse & trafficking.
Here Perry shares a powerful story about sexual abuse and recovery. And how YOU can help rescue a child, right now.
Here’s a message from our Co-Founder, Perry Power:
Our Story
“I hope he doesn’t come in tonight”, those were the words going through my mind when I was 10 years old sleeping in my nan’s spare room.
That was because for over a year my grandad had been sexually abusing me, and on that night I was scared that he was going to come in and rape me.
I grew up in silence because I was too scared about what people would think, say or do to me if they ever found out I was abused. So instead I chose to live in fear which ultimately lead me down a very self-sabotaging journey.
Too many times I wanted to commit suicide because it felt like the battle with my own inner demons was getting too much.
But things slowly started to take a turn when I noticed my dad drinking more than usual.
It soon got to a point where every time I saw him or spoke with him on the phone, he was drunk. Then June 1st, 2017 I get a call to say that he’s just a heart attack and passed away. He was 48.
This became a wakeup call for me because I knew I would end up going down the same path if I didn’t break my silence… And as soon as I realized that, I did.
Fast forward 3 years and I have written a book, built an audience of over 125k followers on TikTok- all of which are kids who relate to my message - and partnered with two of the most amazing people to form We Rescue Kids.
One of the founders, Jeweliet Tangen, I came to know over 2 years ago and I remember being so drawn to her because of her story.
Jeweliet was left on the doorstep of a foster home when she was a baby. She was taken in and raised in this home which soon became a living nightmare.
Growing up as a child in this foster home Jeweliet was raped, abused, and tortured nearly on a daily basis. If it wasn’t her turn, then she would be watching her friends being abused instead. A horror even I have a hard time imagining.
Luckily she was rescued by an amazing woman who soon became her mum, a woman she speaks very highly of.
Now Jeweliet’s biggest goal and passion is rescuing kids from foster homes, much like the one she was raised in, and give them the chance they rightfully deserve.
As for our other co-founder, Samuel Young, he’s just a Canadian rockstar with a huge heart.
Although not coming from a background of sexual abuse himself, he has definitely faced his fair share of setbacks growing up, bringing him to the point now in his life where all he wants to do is help kids become the superhero they were born to be.
Here he is picking up our charity banner recently for our Virtual Summit Fundraising Event.
We Rescue Kids is not only our 3 minds and hearts coming together to create change, but it’s also the hearts of countless others that have helped us every step of the way.
Launch Day
On Tuesday 15th September 2020 we have our official launch day.
Our goal is to raise $1,000,000 in a DAY so we can open our first safe home and rescue 10-20 kids by the end of 2020.
The reason why we picked the 15th is that it’s Jeweliet’s mum’s birthday.
Cheryl, Jeweliet's mom, rescued JT fro sex slavery... And now we are dedicating her birthday to this cause, so she can help hundreds more kids!
What Makes WRK Different From Any Other Charity?
Most other organizations in this space target major sex trafficking rings, or kids within the foster care system. Which leaves a HUGE gap to help the children who are not in those groups, but instead, being abused at home, school, or church.
These children are a LOT harder to find and help, from a legal standpoint. Which is exactly what we want to do. Currently, we are partnering with local law enforcement to find and rescue a child who reports that they’ve been abused at home. Though it’s a lot of work to specialize in these types of abused children, we believe these kids are worth it
So, to sum this all up, what makes us different? It’s that WRK is for the 16 girls and boys currently in transit to be sold as sex slaves…
But ALSO for the 12-year-old boy living at home with his parents who abuse him.
We want WRK to be the brother or sister the kid never had, and provide the type of love and support that they need in order to heal and move forward.

How Do We Plan On Spending The Donations?
We want to open a safe house in October 2020 so we can start bringing in kids currently waiting to be homed. So the first use of money will be going into opening up our first safe house. Once this is up and running we’ll be looking to open up our second, then our third, and so forth.
Next are the rehabilitation and support systems. This is so that our kids can get the emotional, physical and mental support that they need to overcome their trauma.
Knowing just how important the right support system is for victims of abuse, we’ll be investing the donation money into the best therapists, coaches, and staff around to ensure these kids are best looked after.
Donations will also be going towards things such as rescue missions, legal fees, food and clothing for each child.
We will be documenting every step of the way when it comes to these donations and what exactly we are spending it on by posting onto this page and social media.
Transparency is one of our biggest values as a charity, so you can be assured of that.
What happens with the kids after you have rescued them?
A child will move into one of our “safe homes” where they will live, and finally, be a child. Here, they will be in school, participating in activities, and living as close a “normal” life as possible while keeping them safe.
If the child is eligible by the law, we will place them in our adoption services and try to find the child a safe, loving “forever family.”
That is our best-case scenario for a child in our care.
But for those that are not eligible for that program (dictated by the law), then they will continue to live and flourish with us indefinitely.
Final Words
From all of us at We Rescue Kids, we just want to say a BIG thank you to everyone on this page, reading this, donating, sharing our content- and ultimately helping us rescue kids.
We wouldn’t be here without you, and we couldn’t get to where we want to go without you either. Just by donating you are having a direct impact on the lives of vulnerable kids all over the world.
Thank you.
