Kenny and Kaycee Sara— after the Eaton Fires
Donation protected
Greetings,
My name is Kaycee Sara, the daughter of Kenneth and Debbie Sara. After much reflection and prayer, I’ve decided to share our family’s story and humbly ask for your support during this challenging time.
Our Tragedy
On January 8th, 2025–our beloved family home—built on love, music, and memories—was completely destroyed in the devastating Eaton fire.
Everything we owned was lost-- clothing, important documents, family heirlooms, my mom’s ashes, and my dad’s entire collection of musical instruments, including drum kits, a piano, recording equipment, and more.
The home that held generations of our family’s stories is gone. My dad is safe and currently staying with me, but he has been left with nothing—no clothes, no shoes, no hygiene products, and none of the essentials we take for granted.
Our home became a haven not only for our family but also for my grandmother, Ernestine Sara, a Hurricane Katrina survivor who was relocated to live with us. Tragically, her senior care home was also destroyed in the Eaton Fires as well. She has safely been relocated to a temporary care home however she also has lost all of her belongings.
Our Story
Kenneth and Debbie met in New Orleans, where my dad, Kenny, began his journey as a professional drummer at just 13. Life brought them to California, and in 1985, they found their forever home in Altadena—a place filled with love, music, and family memories.
In 2020, we experienced an unimaginable loss when my mom, Debbie, passed away peacefully in that same home. My dad carried on with unwavering strength, maintaining the house and our family’s legacy despite the weight of grief.
Then, in 2023, life threw another curveball—Kenny was diagnosed with a serious heart condition that required complex surgery. I moved back home to care for him during this challenging time period. Together, we faced every challenge with faith and determination.
Why We’re Asking for Your Help
We are a prideful family but this is a mountain we cannot climb alone. Moving forward from this devastation will take time, resources, and so much love.
Any support—no matter how small—will go directly toward helping us soar into our new beginnings as we stabilize our lives especially providing my family with our basic necessities.
