On September 26, 2020, Mady (15 years old), was riding on the back of a jet ski driven by some family friends at their camp on Ossipee Lake.
After hitting an unexpected wave, Mady fell off the back of the Jet Ski and landed in the path of the jet propulsion system. As a result, Mady sustained serious traumatic injuries. Once stable, she was eventually transported by DHART to Boston Children's Hospital where they discovered the back side of her rectum was perforated and that she severed several of the muscles, to include the sphincter. The surgical staff rebuilt her rectum, reattached the muscles, and were forced to add a colostomy stoma. Mady has since arrived home to begin her recovery.
For those of you familiar with Mady, you know that she is a very active 15 year old girl and an athlete. This trauma has, and will have, a significant impact on her well-being. The hope is that in 6-8 weeks, she will revisit the OR at Children's Hospital and the staff will find that her rectum has healed, they will be able to reverse the stoma, and repair her intestines. Obviously this recovery will take an immense amount of effort from family and friends.
