Life can change in an instant. One moment, everything seems normal; the next, the world feels like it’s crumbling beneath your feet. Today, I want to share the heart-wrenching story of a family that embodies resilience, love, and strength but is now facing a storm so overwhelming that they desperately need our help to make it through.

I am a Certified Veterinary Assistant, working in an Exotic Animal Hospital in Chicagoland. My work allows me to save lives alongside a team of extraordinary professionals who dedicate themselves to the well-being of animals every single day. Among this team is my supervisor and Practice Manager— a woman whose heart and dedication have been a guiding light for everyone around her. But today, she’s facing a reality no one should have to endure.

Her husband—her partner, her rock—was involved in a devastating hit-and-run accident that has turned their lives upside down. This is their story, and I hope it touches your heart as deeply as it has mine.

A DEVASTATING ACCIDENT

It was supposed to be an ordinary day. He was on the road, likely thinking about his family and the day ahead, when an 18- wheeler truck came barreling down and changed everything. The truck hit him with such force that his body was left broken in unimaginable ways. As if this wasn’t horrifying enough, the driver fled the scene, leaving him to die on the side of the road.

By some miracle, a FedEx driver spotted him, battered and barely clinging to life, and called 911. Emergency responders airlifted him to the nearest hospital, where doctors worked tirelessly to stabilize him. But the damage was extensive— devastatingly so:

The accident left his body broken and his family reeling. Adding to the pain is the fact that the truck driver has not been identified. Surveillance footage from the scene offered no clear view of the truck’s plates, leaving the case unresolved and their hearts aching for justice.

BURDEN TO UNCERTAINTY

As if this tragedy wasn’t enough, the weight of life’s challenges has continued to crush this family. Just days before the accident, they had to say goodbye to their beloved dog, a loyal companion who had been a source of unconditional love and comfort.

Her aging mother, who lives with them, requires care and support. She is a beautiful soul who has always been a pillar of strength for the family, but now her needs add to the emotional and financial burden they are facing.

And then there’s the harsh financial reality. With her husband unable to work for at least six months, their income has been slashed, and bills are piling up. Their auto and medical insurance companies, citing the truck driver’s liability, have refused to cover significant expenses. This family, already

carrying so much pain, now faces the suffocating weight of mounting debt with no clear way out.

THE POWER OF LOVE AND RESILIENCE

Through all of this, my supervisor has shown a strength that is nothing short of inspiring. Every day, she comes to work with a brave face, determined to do her job and support our team despite the crushing weight she carries. She is a person who has always put others first, whether it’s her family, her coworkers, or the animals we care for.

But even the strongest among us can only carry so much before they need help. And that’s why I’m here—to ask for your help.
