Larry's Medical Fund

I am starting this fund as a last resort to help my father, Larry Mouse, and my family to get through this. My father was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Liver Cirrhosis, which is a result from Hepatitis C. The doctors believe he contracted Hepatitis C from a blood transfusion from a previous surgery; there is no other probable reason that has caused it. The unfortunate part is that between several health issues and surgeries before, any of his blood work has not been positive for Hepatitis C. Since this disease was just now recognized, it is hard to regain the lost time. The disease attacks the liver and it is hard to repair the damage, especially after this much time. My dad has been through several health issues and surgeries in the past, but this disease is way more aggressive and permanent. It first started when he was rushed to a hospital one night with pain from what he thought was his lower back. Since then, he has seen several doctors/specialists who have all given him misleading information, and never mentioned that he had Stage 4 Liver Cirrhosis. Finally, he saw a gastroenterologist who confirmed the diagnosis. My dad and the entire family was so surprised and devastated.
My father, Larry Mouse, used to live here in Cornelius, North Carolina. Ever since I can remember he has worked for himself as a private remodeler. When the economy crashed, he was forced to move to his hometown of Fairmont, West Virginia, where he had continuous work because he wasn’t getting any in Cornelius. This was hard for my family, but over time we have adapted and have come to understand that he is sacrificing time with his family in order to provide for our family. Although he is almost permanently living in Fairmont, he still has relationships in both Fairmont and Cornelius. Most people see him as caring, funny, and a hard worker.
My dad endures harsh pain every day, but still has to work a labor job everyday in order to survive and pay for the medical expenses he has incurred already. Unfortunately, this is just the beginning. Health care and disease prevention/cures in any aspect can be financially detrimental. My father has always found a way to provide for my mother and three sisters, and I want to make sure he has everything possible in order to overcome this disease.
The doctors want to try a medication named Humana to cure the Hepatitis C. He will have to take the medication for up to a year, and it will cost around $100,000. I can’t believe people with life threatening diseases like this have to endure financial struggles on top of the physical and emotional side effects. If the medicine does not does not work, he will have to have a liver transplant.
My family is not pursuing a set goal, so anything will help. If you can’t financially support, we appreciate any type of support you can give. This is a hard time for Larry and our entire family, but we are determined to help him overcome this drastic disease so we can stay the strong family we are.
