Weak Tree Theater Company's Hamlet

Primary Goal: $1,000
Stretch Goal 1: $5,400
Stretch Goal 2: $6,150
Hello!
My name is Bella Choy and I'm the producer and leading player for Weak Tree Theater Company's first production, Hamlet. Often considered one of the greatest plays in the English language, Hamlet is the tale of a Danish prince struggling with the morality of avenging his murdered father while being spied on by friends and foes alike. As NYU Tisch drama students, our ensemble created Weak Tree because of our actors' incredible passion for performing Shakespeare. We want to make the poetry feel immediate and contemporary for our audiences while honoring the poignancy that made us fall in love with these plays in the first place.
Plan for Proceeds:
Production Costs: $1,000. Producing this show will cost $1,000 for material goods (i.e. props, set, costumes). The primary budget will be allocated 20% to set, 45% to costumes, and the rest to props.
Stretch Goal 1: $5,400. Our first stretch goal is to give each company member a $400 stipend to pay them for their hard work in the show, so $5,400 as we are an ensemble of 11. While every person accepted their role understanding they might be performing for free, Weak Tree values compensating people as fairly as we can.
Stretch Goal 2: $6,150. If we make it to $6,150, we will rent a black box theater and film the show with all the bells and whistles: light, sound, and a camera nicer than an iPhone! Regardless, we will post a recorded performance to YouTube for anyone who can't make it to New York in early April.
Thank you so much for your time and attention. We cannot wait to share our work with you this spring and hope you find as much joy in watching it as we will making it for you.
