Wee Thomas’s Journey

Our beautiful and adventurous 3 year old boy, Thomas has been diagnosed with leukaemia turning our whole world upside down.
It started around 3 weeks ago when Thomas became unwell with Crop and never fully recovered from this. Fast forward to Wednesday 29/05/2024 when we were rushed to hospital with suspected meningitis. To our absolute delight we were told that it was not meningitis until we heard the “but” and the sentence that came after that shattered our hearts. Our boy has leukaemia and needed to start treatment immediately. We are a family of 5, mum, dad, Clara (5) and Andrew and Thomas who are identical twin boys.
We have been told that Thomas’s next 3 years at least will be the biggest fight he’s ever had to face and one that no child should ever have to face to beat this disease. At least the next couple of months our families life is going to be spent at the Queen Elizabeth University hospital as Thomas is now an inpatient receiving chemotherapy and blood transfusions. After a while the plan is for Thomas to receive treatment as an outpatient for the next 3 years which unfortunately means our family will have to leave our home on the Isle of Arran for the foreseeable to live closer to the hospital.
This disease has caused our family to be split up with Clara, Andrew and their dad returning to Arran for work, school and nursery and Thomas and mum staying in the hospital.
We are now in a situation where one parent has had to quit their job and the other going to work but having to take a lot of leave, traveling back and forth to the hospital and trying to keep the other 2 kids life’s as normal as possible.
Our family needs help! Becoming a one income family, traveling costs and loss of earnings has caused us serious financial stress that we do not need/ want to have to worry about. We want to be able to focus all our energy and strength into getting our beautiful Thomas through this.
Any help you could give us would make a huge difference to our little family!
