Family & Friends,

On November 5th, Matthew collapsed and was rushed to the ER. After being transferred to the University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital, he was diagnosed with Twisted Bowel and had emergency surgery. Unfortunately, the doctor returned with sad news stating that a lot of his intestinal tissue was dead. The only option my mom and dad could make was to wait to see if any of the blood flow could return and they could save as much of the tissue as possible. On the 7th, they removed most of the dead tissue, and he will have to have another surgery (currently slated on the 9th) to remove any additional tissue that isn’t surviving.

The surgeon stated on the 8th that they don’t think Matthew will be able to eat normally again with the small amount of intestines that are remaining. He will need a feeding tube and a permanent central catheter for IV nutrition. He will need another surgery to look at and wash out and then one to close things up, add the feeding tube, and add the permanent catheter placement.

My parents were blessed to get a room at the Ronald McDonald House in Ann Arbor so that they can stay close to Matthew but are not able to work and will need food since they don’t have a fridge or kitchen. It will take MONTHS for Matthew to recover, and the family to return home to create their new normal. With Matthew being in this condition, both of my parents don’t want to leave Matthew’s side until they know he’s stable and on his path to healing and recovery.

In the interim, we would appreciate and love any support that you could give to Tim & Annette to help support them through this difficult time, and of course your prayers. The funds will go towards food and helping to pay the bills while they are by Matthew’s side through this long journey. We thank you all for the love, prayers, and support you have already given.
