Welcome Baby Brayden
Donation protected
Hey everyone! As most of you know, Falyn and Brian had received several diagnosis for their baby that were incompatible with life. At 17 weeks she lost all of her fluid, and consecutive scans have shown that the baby had malformed and non functioning kidneys, two holes in his heart and a pulmonary valve abnormality, spots on his brain, thickness at his neck indicating Spina bifida (and a positive Spina bifida screening). We were told he only had a 5% chance of survival and if he did survive birth and lived, it would either only be for a short while, or with 24/7 interventions and no brain function or quality of life.
After 10 days in the hospital, yesterday morning Falyn went into an emergency C-section. They had shown up at the hospital with just a single outfit and funeral arrangements with a non-profit. The OR was crowded and everyone held their breaths waiting for a terminally ill and malformed baby to be born and start palliative care.
Except baby Brayden defied the doctors diagnosis. As he was pulled from the womb, he let out a little cry - which we were told to jot expect because he'd have the lungs of a 14 weeker.
We were told if he survived he would need a heart transplant, a lung transplant, and a kidney transplant. However, needing 3 organs made him ineligible.
Surprisingly, he was born with viable lungs, and after running several tests, the holes in his heart had closed up on their own.
His kidneys however, the right one is not functioning and the left one is in his pelvis but functioning - not well, but enough to produce just a tiny amount of amniotic fluid that has kept him alive and developed his lungs just enough. He will likely need a kidney transplant and he will be eligible since he now no longer needs lungs and a heart, too.
3 weeks before Falyn was hospitalized, they were in a car accident that totaled their car. They are still fighting insurance and have no vehicle and have been depending on my family.
2 weeks before Falyn was hospitalized, Brian lost his job because he was taking a lot of time off already for Falyns OB appointments, and to care for their 2 year old, and then with the loss of a car he was having to find rides to work.
They have been told since 17 weeks they were not going to take a baby home. They have absolutely nothing for him except the outfit they brought to the hospital.
Brayden will be in the NICU for a while and will require several surgeries. Please help us raise money to setup a nursery to bring him home to, as well as a car seat and all things necessary for a baby. Any extra will go to a car, meals, and gas expenses for traveling back and forth for Brayden. Surgeries will be in New Orleans and that's a 3 hour commute for them.
Brian and Falyn have been through a lot these last 9 months and they're starting out behind the ball with a new baby. Anything you can donate is appreciated.
