Welcome Home Alabama's Ukraine Veterans

Alex Drueke and Andy Huyn are Alabama heroes.

When the war in Ukraine broke out, the two military veterans traveled to the war-torn country to help its people fight off the Russian invasion. They were captured by opposition forces and held as POW's for over three months. Alex and Andy were freed only after the Crown Prince of Saudia Arabia helped negotiate their release. However, they paid their own way back to Alabama– they did not ask the U.S. State Department to provide them with transportation home after they arrived at our embassy in Riyadh.

Alex and Andy's families are now faced with having to pay the bills for those flights and lodging.

The Alabama Republican Party is raising funds to assist them with this burden. An anonymous ALGOP donor will personally be matching funds to help with this effort.

We are thankful for Andy and Alex's service and sacrifice and are grateful they can spend this holiday season at home with their families.
