Emergency truck purchase to help end homelessness

Homeward Bound is committed to ending homelessness in our community through permanent housing and support. We believe that housing is a human right, that homelessness is a solvable problem, and that every human being has value and worth. Since 2006, Homeward Bound has helped more than 2,500 people move into housing, and 92% have not returned to homelessness.

We're fundraising for a new Welcome Home Moving Truck to ensure that we can keep successfully moving people off the streets and into homes.

A truck to transform a house into a home

Most people experiencing homelessness have few or no belongings. Homeward Bound’s Welcome Home Donation Center collects gently used furnishings and household goods from the community for individuals and families moving out of homelessness and into permanent housing. One reason for our 92% success rate in keeping people in housing is that we move formerly homeless individuals into fully furnished homes.

We can't do this without a moving truck.

Our Welcome Home Moving Truck is key to transforming houses into homes. On average, our Welcome Home Moving Truck drives 900 miles a month moving individuals, families, and veterans into their new, permanent homes. We can fit up to 3 homes worth of furnishings into the truck in one trip.

Unfortunately, our current truck is barely able to keep up with the demands of housing our neighbors. It's leaking oil, overheating, and barely sputtering along. As we continue to ramp up move-ins for our most vulnerable neighbors, we desperately need a reliable truck to help relocate them from the streets to a safe and stable home.

Instead of fundraising for the cost of repairs, or purchasing a high-mileage and less reliable vehicle, we are fundraising to help purchase a brand-new moving truck. We've researched and priced an appropriate truck that can meet the demands of our mission at $65,000. The funds raised through GoFundMe and social media campaigns will go directly toward the purchase of the new Welcome Home Moving Truck.

The fundraising drive will end on July 14, 2023, as we need a reliable truck as soon as possible. Our current vehicle is overheating with each load and cannot keep up as the busy months of moving are soon approaching. We need your help.
